The Ca'Peo, a well-known restaurant serving some of the finest food in Italy, is located high in the coastal hills south of Genoa. You might think you will never arrive as the road winds ever upward from the coast through groves of olive and chestnut trees, but the way is well signposted, and just about the time you might be ready to despair, you will find a wonderful old farmhouse, owned by the charming Franco Solari, who is host and in charge of the wines, and his talented wife, Melly, who is the chef. Their enchanting daughter, Nicoletta, who will immediately win your heart, helps out wherever needed. The intimate dining room, which has only nine tables, is enclosed on three sides by large arched windows to take advantage of a sweeping view to the sea. Dining is definitely the main feature, and if you appreciate fine food and wines it is superb; however, in a modern annex there are five rooms (most are suites) available for guests who want to spend the night. The decor here is simple, but after lingering over a wonderful meal accompanied by delicious wines, how nice to walk just a few steps to your bed. The Ca'Peo is only about half-an-hour drive from the popular resort of Portofino, so you might want to stay here instead or treat yourself to a memorable meal but reservations are necessary.

FLORENCE
A local cuisine of exceptional quality. The best known dish has to be the bistecca alla fiorentina, but panforte, bollito, finocchiona and pappardelle are also firm favourites with locals and visitors alike. Soups are popular, prepared with peas, archichokes, cabbage and bread and one should never forget the Pappa al Pomodoro, a surprisingly simple dish (made primarily from bread and tomato) yet gloriously rich and full of intense flavour.
The Tuscan D.O.C.G wines are known throughout the world. Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti, and Nobile di Montepulciano are among the finest, although the list of quality wines produced in the region is almost endless .ý

The food at this upscale trattoria is fantastic, from the creamy crostini di fegatini (a savory chicken-liver spread) to the meltingly good desserts. If you thought you'd never try tripe -- let alone like it -- this is the place to lay any doubts to rest: the trippa in insalata (cold tripe salad) with parsley and garlic is an epiphany. Construe chef Fabio Picchi's unsolicited advice as a sign of his enthusiasm for cooking; it's warranted, as the food is among the best and most creative in town. Just around the corner is Cibreino, Cibrýo's budget version, with a shorter menu and a no-reservations policy. Reservations essential. AE, DC, MC, V. After a rough morning of shopping on Via Tornabuoni, stop for lunch in this 15th-century palazzo in the company of Florentine ladies (and men) who lunch and come to see and be seen. The panache of the food matches its clientele, but be prepared to pay dearly for such treats as tramezzino con pane di campagna al tartufo (country pýte with truffles served on bread) or the insalata di gamberoni e gamberetti con carciofi freschi (crayfish and prawn salad with shaved raw artichokes). A Hollywood set of a Tuscan trattoria could take some cues from this charming place, with its tile floors that recall the 1930s and tables set with tiny fresh flowers and patterned plates -- all signs that La Baraonda does things one notch better than most other places. The food is imaginative, from starters such as spaghetti con quattro P (literally, with four Ps: pomodoro, pecorino, pepolino, and peperoncini, or tomato, pecorino cheese, thyme, and chili peppers) to the farinata (a bread-based soup in this case). 2007 best restaurant in the wold
The world's 50 best restaurants 2007
1: El Bulli, Spain
Best dish: None. Is said to be so inventive that it "transcends the limitation of signature dish".
Critics say: "A visit to El Bulli requires a willingness to suspend the reality that eating is a basic fundamental of life.
Ferran Adria does not favour the concept of comfort eating. His tasting menus are assault courses for taste buds."
Located down a magnificent driveway in Roses, on the Costa Brava, about 160km north of Barcelona, the restaurant's head chef, Ferran Adria, is considered something of a living legend. Don't even think of dropping in on the off-chance, bookings open and close on one day in mid-January. The restaurant is open from April to September - for the rest of the year the chefs are said to be devising new recipes. If you are lucky enough to get a spot you will work through 25 dishes, which could be codfish foam or spherical potato gnocchi with consommé of roasted potatoes.
